“Rishabh Pant was angry”: Axar Patel reveals DC captain’s reaction after BCCI suspended him for one game

Rishabh Pant, the captain of Delhi Capitals, found himself in hot water due to his team’s repeated slow over rate offences. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suspended him for one game and imposed hefty fines of INR 12 lakh, INR 24 lakh, and INR 30 lakh for three separate slow over rate penalties.

Despite lodging an appeal against the match referee’s decision, Pant’s efforts to overturn the ruling proved futile. Axar Patel, the stand-in captain for the match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, shed light on Pant’s reaction following the unsuccessful appeal.

“Rishabh Pant was visibly upset at the team’s hotel. He also appealed against the decision because he felt that a captain should not be held responsible for the bowlers’ faults,” Axar Patel revealed.

However, it’s essential to recognize that it is the captain’s responsibility to manage the game effectively, as they are the leaders of the team, and the bowlers follow their instructions. Pant has often been observed taking considerable time to adjust the field between overs.

In a similar vein, Shubman Gill of Gujarat Titans and Sanju Samson of Rajasthan Royals are also facing the prospect of being banned, as their respective teams have been found guilty of slow over rates on two occasions each. These incidents serve as reminders of the importance of maintaining proper over rates in cricket and the repercussions that follow if such regulations are not adhered to.
