Gujarat Titans Up for Grabs? CVC Capital Partners in Talks to Sell Majority Stake

The ownership of the Gujarat Titans franchise might be changing hands! According to the Economic Times, CVC Capital Partners, the current owners of the youngest IPL team, are in discussions to sell a majority stake in the franchise.

This news comes after the Titans’ first underwhelming season following their impressive championship win in 2022 and runner-up finish in 2023. The departure of skipper Hardik Pandya to Mumbai Indians seems to have impacted their performance, with Shubman Gill’s leadership failing to replicate the initial success.

The report mentions two potential buyers – the Adani Group and the Torrent Group. Both companies are based in Ahmedabad, the Titans’ home city, and were reportedly interested in acquiring an IPL franchise back in 2021.

With the BCCI’s lock-in period for new IPL teams ending in February 2025, this could be the perfect opportunity for either of these giants to enter the lucrative world of IPL ownership.

The potential sale of the majority stake raises questions about the future of the Gujarat Titans. Will the new owners retain the current team management and core players, or will we see a significant revamp ahead of IPL 2025? Only time will tell what the future holds for the Titans.
