India’s Stance on Champions Trophy Triggers Backlash from Pakistan

The ongoing political tensions between India and Pakistan have once again cast a shadow over international cricket. India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan for the upcoming Champions Trophy has sparked strong reactions from Pakistani cricket officials and former players.

Former Pakistan cricketer Javed Miandad has been particularly vocal in his criticism of India’s stance. He expressed his disappointment and called for Pakistan to boycott future matches against India.

“It’s a joke that this is happening. Even if we don’t play India at all, Pakistan cricket will not only survive but prosper as well as we have shown in the past. I would like to see how the ICC events earn money when there are no Pakistan and India matches,” Miandad said.

The BCCI has proposed a hybrid model for the Champions Trophy, similar to the Asia Cup 2023, where matches involving India would be hosted in a neutral venue. However, the PCB has insisted on hosting the entire tournament in Pakistan.

The ongoing political tensions between the two countries have made it difficult to organize bilateral cricket series. India’s decision to avoid touring Pakistan highlights the deep-rooted animosity between the two nations. It remains to be seen how the ICC will resolve this issue and find a solution that satisfies both parties.
