BCCI Tweaks Penalty Run Rule in Domestic Cricket

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced a subtle change to the penalty run rule in domestic cricket. This alteration aims to streamline the game and potentially reduce instances of unfair advantage.

Previously, if the ball made contact with any equipment, clothing, or other objects on the field, the batting side was awarded five penalty runs. However, under the new rule, the ball will remain in play, and a dismissal resulting from such contact will be considered valid.

This change is expected to minimize instances where teams could potentially gain an unfair advantage by deliberately placing objects on the field. It also aligns with the broader goal of simplifying the rules of the game.

The BCCI has implemented this new rule during the ongoing Ranji Trophy season, signaling its commitment to adapting to the evolving landscape of cricket.
