Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has expressed pessimism about India’s chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) final after their recent whitewash against New Zealand.
In a recent interview, Gavaskar stated that India’s hopes of a 4-0 clean sweep against Australia are unrealistic. He emphasized that while a 3-1 victory is achievable, focusing solely on the WTC final might not be the right approach.
“I don’t think India can beat Australia 4-0. It’s a very tough task. Let’s focus on winning the series, whether it’s 1-0, 2-0, 3-0, or 3-1,” Gavaskar said.
He further added that the recent defeat against New Zealand has dampened the mood of Indian cricket fans and a strong performance in Australia is crucial to restore confidence.
“We need to win the series to bring back the joy of cricket to our fans. Let’s not worry too much about the WTC final right now,” he concluded.
India’s upcoming tour of Australia will be a challenging one, and their performance in the series will significantly impact their chances of qualifying for the WTC final.
