A major shock has rocked the Pakistan cricket team as they have dropped star pacer Shaheen Afridi from the Playing XI for the second Test against Bangladesh. The hosts are currently trailing 0-1 in the series and desperately need a win to level the score.
Afridi, who was one of the key bowlers in the first Test, was criticized for his lackluster performance. He managed to pick up only two wickets and conceded a significant number of runs, contributing to Bangladesh’s massive first-innings total.
The decision to drop Afridi has come as a surprise to many, given his status as one of Pakistan’s premier fast bowlers. However, his recent form has been a cause for concern, with inconsistent performances across all formats.
Reports suggest that Afridi’s off-field behavior during the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 also played a role in his exclusion from the team.
In his place, Pakistan have added spinner Abrar Ahmed to the final 12-man squad. The decision to include a spinner indicates that the team is looking to exploit any weaknesses in Bangladesh’s batting lineup.
The second Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh is scheduled to begin on August 30.
