Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has launched a scathing attack on India, claiming that the neighboring country is using security concerns as a pretext to avoid playing cricket in Pakistan.
With the Champions Trophy 2025 scheduled to be held in Pakistan, the issue of India’s participation has once again come to the fore. Afridi believes that India’s consistent refusal to tour Pakistan is unjustified, given the Pakistani team’s history of touring India despite facing security threats.
The all-rounder emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to hosting the tournament and its willingness to provide adequate security for the Indian team. However, he questioned India’s sincerity in playing bilateral cricket with Pakistan.
The ongoing political tensions between the two nuclear-armed nations have significantly impacted cricket relations. While Pakistan has consistently expressed its desire to resume bilateral cricket, India has maintained a cautious stance due to security concerns.
The 2008 Mumbai terror attacks and the subsequent attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore have further strained the cricketing ties between the two countries.
The upcoming Champions Trophy 2025 is seen as a potential opportunity to mend the broken bridge, but Afridi’s comments indicate that the road to reconciliation is still fraught with challenges.
