WPL 2025 Retention Deadline Revealed; Purse Value Eight Times Lesser Than IPL – Reports

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has extended the deadline for Women’s Premier League (WPL) franchises to submit their retention lists. The five teams – Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, UP Warriorz, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Gujarat Giants – are now required to finalize their retained players by November 7th.

Initially, the deadline was set for October 15th. However, the BCCI has granted an extension to allow teams more time to evaluate their squads and make informed decisions.

The WPL 2025 is set to be a bigger and better edition, with an increased purse of INR 15 crore. While the specific date for the auction is yet to be announced, it is expected to take place later this year.

Another significant change in the cricketing calendar is the shift in the WPL’s window. Starting from 2026, the tournament will be held in January, instead of the traditional February window. This adjustment is part of the BCCI’s efforts to optimize the cricket calendar and accommodate various international and domestic tournaments.

The first two seasons of the WPL have been immensely successful, attracting huge viewership and generating significant interest. With the league’s growing popularity, the BCCI is keen to further enhance its stature and make it one of the premier women’s cricket leagues in the world.
