England’s star batsman Joe Root is on the verge of creating history during the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka.
The former England captain is just 402 runs away from becoming the first batter to amass 5000 runs in the World Test Championship (WTC). Currently, he sits at the top of the WTC run-scorers list with 4598 runs.
Root is also closing in on another significant milestone. He needs 446 runs to surpass Alastair Cook as England’s all-time leading run-scorer in Test cricket. Cook holds the record with 12472 runs, while Root is currently at 12027.
Furthermore, the stylish right-hander is eyeing another record against Sri Lanka. He requires 290 runs to overtake Alastair Cook as England’s highest run-scorer against the Asian side.
With three Tests to play, Root has a golden opportunity to etch his name in the record books.
