SRH CEO Demands Strict Action Against Players Who Opt Out of IPL

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) CEO Kavya Maran has called for stringent measures against players who withdraw from the Indian Premier League (IPL) without a valid reason.

The issue of players backing out of the IPL after being picked at the auction has been a growing concern for franchises. Maran highlighted the case of Wanindu Hasaranga, who pulled out of the IPL 2024 citing injury, as an example of the problems faced by teams.

Maran also emphasized the need for greater flexibility in player retention rules, suggesting that franchises should have more discretion in allocating funds to retained players. She believes this would allow teams to build squads tailored to their specific needs.

The SRH CEO’s comments are likely to spark a wider debate on player commitments and franchise rights in the IPL.

Do you think the BCCI will implement stricter rules to address this issue?
